Who We Are

Welcome! Make yourself at home. We hope you stay awhile.

Sugarblue Mojo was founded in 2014 by a pair of sisters (that would be the “We” in “Who We Are”) who were born and raised in a suburb on the outskirts of Montreal. All grown up with families of their own, Anita and Dianne now live in the exact-same suburb, just a hop, skip, and a jump outside of Toronto.

Anita Reynolds MacArthur is a word lover.

Anita has built her career in educational publishing, written two award-winning children’s picture books, and recently released two digital interactive storybook apps available on iTunes (www.maccheeky.com). Anita lives in a Toronto suburb with her husband, three charming chili beans, the family dog Goober, and a lot of fish.

Dianne Reynolds is a design aficionado.

A graphic designer by trade, Dianne sees the detail in just about everything from the hue in a paint chip, to the texture of a fabric, to the mix of greens in a single blade of grass (www.diannereynolds.com). Dianne lives in a Toronto suburb (the same one as Anita) with her husband, uber-talented daughter, a few fish, and one big frog.

We are sisters juggling work, home, and family life with a dash of Zen.

In a nutshell? It’s about keeping it real.

Why We Are Here

After a routine annual physical in late 2012, Anita received the frightening news that she had highly aggressive abnormal cervical cells that were not present the year before. She was informed that these abnormal cells were growing at such a rapid rate they could mutate into cancer cells at any given moment. On top of these mind-numbing results, Anita was also told that she had Candidiasis, also known as Candida (or leaky gut), which is a serious immune disorder.

Anita had to question … What brought on these health issues? And, more importantly, as a wife and working mother of three with a crazy-busy household, how do I get healthy? Thankfully, after endless hours of research, and with the love of family, as well as the help of her family doctor, naturopathic doctor, and surgeon at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Anita was cleared of Candida in 2014 and received a clean bill of health from Sunnybrook in early 2015.

Anita Shares Her Thoughts

Along my journey back to health, I needed to figure out how to de-stress my life—inside and out. What I mean by this is, I knew that I would have to find a way to manage outward stresses but I had no idea that I would also need to manage the stress that was taking place within my body.

I thought I had zero food allergies. After testing, it turns out I’m allergic to many foods (wheat, cow dairy, eggs, almonds, pineapple, and banana). Having consumed all of these foods my whole life had led to Candida. The Candida had weakened my immune system so it could no longer fight off viruses. So, a virus that would have likely stayed dormant forever came to life in the form of highly aggressive abnormal cervical cells—and, Candida had brought this virus to life with a vengeance.

I was constantly on the internet, searching for information that would help me on my road to recovered health. In terms of stress management, I was always on the lookout for blog posts that would fill me up, that would feed my soul. This search, and many lengthy chats with my sister Dianne, ultimately lead to the creation of this blog.

I know there are other people out there who are searching for information that will make them feel a little bit wiser, a little bit happier, and perhaps even a little less stressed. Sugarblue Mojo is here to help you do just that. It’s a place where you can come to fill you up, feed your soul. Sugarblue Mojo is a safe haven that will help make your world a little more luxurious and relaxed, one post at a time.

Thanks for visiting. Make yourself at home. I hope you stay awhile.
